What To Carry


  • Carry all your proper travel documents while touring to North-East India. Check if Restricted Area Permission is required to visit the area you are heading.
  • Bring appropriate clothing according to the climate condition of the region. While planning to visit North-East India in winters, you need to bring some winter clothes. In summers, carry light clothes.
  • Choose your dress properly before you are traveling to North-Eastern states of India. As tribal population is huge in the region, it is better to bring clothes, which are not very flaunting/western in looks.
  • Equip yourself with all necessary amenities like trekking kit, cameras and binoculars.
  • Always put a personal first-aid-box in your bag. Some of North-Eastern states are very less populated, and you may not find a doctor at urgent basis. .
  • Carry your own communications modes, if possible. Finding a PCO or Internet cafe may be an arduous task. So, it is better to carry your own cellphone and laptop.

What Not To Carry


  • Instead of carrying too much cash, it is better to use your cards for any transaction. Though it may not always be a good idea, as shops accepting cards are located only at major towns.
  • Do not carry weapon. North-East India is a sensitive area, and carrying a weapon may invite you serious trouble.
  • Never carry opened suitcase. As thieving is an often occurrence, you better need to lock it or chain it.
  • Do not carry alcohol/drugs inside the premises of religious spots. It might hurt sentiments of locals.
